$8,000 Tax Credit Looks Like it Worked at Least in October 2009

Written by Scott Cowan on November 23rd, 2009

The NAR (National Association of Realtors) which I am a member of due to my affiliation with Keller Williams Realty announced that home sales in October 2009 had a 10.1% increase. Home sales were the highest in the last 2.5 years. MSNBC has more information here.

This makes sense as many of the buyers were trying to close their home purchase in time to receive the $8,000 tax credit that was set to expire November 30th. Now that it has been extended we are expecting to see first time homes to continue strong sales through the first quarter of 2010 and beyond.

If you are looking to purchase a home in Tacoma or Pierce County in 2010 I would encourage you to consider making your purchase by April 30th. This way if you’re eligible you will receive the extended $8,000 tax credit.

If you are considering selling your home that you have lived in for 5 or more years you will most likely be eligible for the $6,500 tax credit. You will need to sell your home by April 30th. AND purchase another home by April 30th. 2010. (closing the transaction by June 30th. 2010) I would suggest you contact a Realtor as soon as possible to determine if you are eligible and what your home should sell for. Please feel free to contact me directly if you would like to discuss how to take advantage of this opportunity. You can reach me directly at (253) 219-1194.

Best wishes,

Scott Cowan
